The Ohio Flames U-16 Tier II team won their league play offs in the Great Lakes Girls Hockey League this weekend with three decisive victories. They won 3-0 against the Niagara Coyotes, 2-0 against the Monroe County Eagles, and 6-2 against the Camillus Cougars. That tournament was structured in a double elimination format, but the girls managed to sweep the championship!
They also won the team skills challenge championship.
The Girls won their division with a record of 10-1-5 in league play, as well as the Mid-Am U-16 District Championship.

by web admin posted 10/26/2008 Ohio Flame Alum Starts First Ever Club Hockey Team at Purdue University
Katie McNamara starting club hockey at Purdue University. Katie tells us that they are going to be a D2 club sport. There is a men's D2 club team at Purdue and their hope is that if they get their girl's team up to par, they can both become D3 teams in the next few years. The first season will be next year with about 15 to 20 games played (about half the normal games). They will be a part of the CCWHA and play teams from Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. They are looking for a coach and more PLAYERS for next year! Interested parties may contact Katie at :

by Theresa Wisniewski posted 02/07/2008 The Ohio Flames first ever home game at Iceland Arena was a success, a surprise to many in the crowd of over 150 people but not to the members of the U19 team.
The Flames earned a hard fought 4-2 victory over a fast skating Medina Varsity Boys team. Coach van Bolderen was pleased …” I think the boys underestimated the girls and their skill level, we had solid goaltending and I think the difference was our team passing and our breakouts” Coach Hrbac of Medina “… I give the Flames full marks for the victory” With the looking like it was going to end in a tie Covell netted the game winner at 13:30 mark of the third with a slick move out of the corner from a feed by McCann, the second goal by Chippy finished off a perfect two on one pass from McNamara with a wrist shot to the top corner while Heather Lindsay got the game opening goal on a slap shot from the point and then netted the final goal with a perfect shot into an empty net from the defensive zone. |
